a higher learning.

June 22nd, 2010

a few pics from a higher learning, sydney. it was great to hear from designers ben pollitt [friedrich gray] and luke sales [romance was born]. glynis traill-nash was a fabulous facilitator as well. i found it incredibly beneficial and i’m determined to work my arse off to get to where i want to be. doing what you ask? well, you’ll just have to wait and see.

for the full rundown, and because i’m super busy [translate = lazy], go and check out lorena’s wrap ups on Australian INfront. day one is now online.

the dion lee pop-up shop.

June 21st, 2010

…also known as the reason why i missed my flight home from sydney.

i’ve just returned from sydney, where i was attending ‘a higher learning‘ for a couple of days [it was great and more to come on that later]. knowledge overload, so once it was all over, i caught up with my bestie Sarina and we fit in some lunch and shopping at Bondi. i couldn’t leave sydney without checking out the dion lee pop-up shop which has just opened, and consequently couldn’t leave sydney because i missed my flight home! ahaha. luckily i could be put on the next one, and luckily i did make it to the shop and went away with a couple of purchases. i had no time to try on anything!  sooooo many beautiful clothes. i wanted them all. do go down if you’re in sydney! it’s located on glenmore rd, paddington.

the sportsgirl scrapbook.

June 13th, 2010

i was lucky to be contacted by lana who looks after sportsgirl online to create an entry for their scrapbook. [it's fab that sportsgirl are building up their online presence btw!] anyway, the scrapbook is all about bloggers, friends and team members showing their inspiration, their favourite things, mementos etc. so after thinking long and hard about it, i compiled [with the help of peter's photoshopping skills] to put these pics together.

i’m sure ya’ll know about the inspirations i get from my mum, but i just LOVE the old pics. the top pic of the car is from her time on christmas island, which is where she met my dad. the jackie’s bowl image is from singapore, taken around 1967 [so dad has worked out]. i loved seeing the pic of me [taken in melbourne] next to mum, how similar do we look?! i thought my alexander wang sunnies completed the set nicely.

these are my inspirations – my mum and my heritage, travel, colour, accessories and life.

you can view my entry and more here.

i also just made a vow to wear more clothes that i’ve made. i don’t know why i don’t. a mad woman i am. anyways, i didn’t make this tshirt [bonds did] but i did embellish it by sewing hand printed on silk pictures of my mum when she was young. i like it. what do you think?

outfit: editor in chic coat from modcloth, sportsgirl cardigan, purple gloves from ebay, dear mary tshirt by me.

in the beginning…

May 31st, 2010

i was a bit lucky to be contacted by sarah from beginning boutique and offered a voucher to use in their online store and then blog about it.  as you can see, i don’t have any advertising on my site, but when nice people contact me with a proposal that ends in me increasing my wardrobe, it’s hard to say no! the reasons 1. i like finding new online boutiques. 2.  it doesn’t take much for me to spend money 3. i had been looking for a new blazer 4. what am i supposed to do when i find a jacket that reminds me of tron?

and this is how i came to own my new bec & bridge shoot out blazer. now i do majority of my shopping online, so of course i compare prices. and you know what, they had cheaper prices than others that i found. i also signed up as a member and got further discount in addition to my voucher as well. i ordered the blazer on thursday, and it arrived on friday! super quick. if you have any questions about the items they stock, they provide great feedback and help before you purchase as well. i don’t think there’s much more that you’d want in an online purchase.

beginning boutique stocks great aussie designers such as gary bigeni, dhini, sara phillips and others that recently showed at rafw. keep an eye on the online shop because they’ll be stocking 2010/11 spring/summer collections from miss unkon, love is treason and mouille.

xx

PS – they have a great twitter presence too, you can follow them here.

outift: bec & bridge shoot out blazer from beginning boutique, vintage necklace from the glamourai, witchery lace tshirt.

sewin’ fool.

May 30th, 2010

as some of you may know, i’m currently studying a certificate of fashion design at Tafe SA here in Adelaide. We’re on to our second skirt at the moment, an a-line skirt with a yoke and kick pleat. in calico. exciting right? yes yes, i know we have to start at the basics, which is fine, but it just means that i am forever aching to get into extra-curricular sewing that 1. doesn’t involve calico 2. designs that i want to wear and fit me! [damn standard size 10 sewing].

i’m a huge fan of draping, and this is my first experiment. remember that drape book i bought all those months ago? well i took it out and attempted to read the patterns. not an easy feat as you can see. also it’s japanese so there’s essentially no english. anyway! i’m pretty pleased with the result. i used this silver covered stretch jersey which probably didn’t have enough draping ability as i would have preferred, but whatevs. new top for me! [oh yeah i started it as a dress and then decided on a top. i'm a designer, i can make these decisions right?].

and you really can’t see much of it in these pics either but i assure you it’s cool. ahaha.
